Waffle Recipe

This easy waffle recipe is one of the nicest - it produces really crisp waffles.

If you are after healthy breakfast recipes, serve these waffles with berries and maple syrup. Alternatively, if you are looking for healthy snack recipes for kids, you could serve these waffles with bacon or ham, cheese and cherry tomatoes. Making homemade waffles means that you never have to resort to a commercial waffle mix again!


  • Easy
  • Preparation time: 5 minutes
  • Cooking time: about 2 minutes per waffle
  • Makes 8 waffles
  • Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 3oz / 90g butter, melted
  • Method:

    1. Mix together all the ingredients.
    2. Grease the waffle iron if necessary. Place a ladle of batter onto the waffle iron. Close the lid and cook for 1 - 2 minutes until the waffle is crisp and golden brown. Remove the waffle and repeat the process.
    3. Serve with the following accompaniments:

  • fresh berries
  • maple syrup or honey
  • cream (or ice-cream if this is a dessert)
  • crispy lean bacon or ham
  • smoked salmon, dill and cottage cheese
  • grated cheese, basil and cherry tomatoes
