Ground Beef Stroganoff Recipe
This Ground Beef Stroganoff Recipe is one of those simple ground beef recipes, without too many ingredients. When I cook ground beef, I like to brown it quickly first, and then give it a long, slow bake. This produces meat which is meltingly soft with an intense flavor. With this recipe, the meat is baked in a casserole dish for about an hour. The mushrooms are then added and the dish is cooked for a further ½ hour. We have used half a cup of cream in this recipe, but if you are wanting a richer gravy, you may add more cream.
EasyPreparation time: 15 minutesCooking time: 1½ hoursServes: 4 - 6Ingredients: 1lb 10oz / 750g ground beef2 medium onions, finely diced8oz mushrooms, sliced quite thickly1 cup beef stock - can be made with a stock cube¼ cup loosely packed parsely, chopped½ cup single creamMethod: - Brown the ground beef in 4 - 5 batches. If you attempt to brown it all at once, you will land up with a gray, watery mass. Keep aside.
- Brown the onions until they are a deep caramel color. This helps to give the dish flavor.
- Mix together the ground beef, onions and stock in a casserole dish. Place the lid on top and bake at 350° F / 180° C for 1 hour.
- Add the mushrooms and parsley. Bake for another ½ hour.
- Stir the cream through the dish. You may either heat the dish through again, or if you feel that it is hot enough, you can serve straight away. Serve with noodles, rice or potatoes and vegetables (beans, broccoli or peas and carrots).
