Ground Beef Goulash
This Ground Beef Goulash is quickly prepared and then bakes at a low temperature for about an hour and a half. It is one of the easiest ground beef casserole recipes and produces a delicious, rich dish with minimal effort. Traditionally, a goulash is a kind of thin stew made with paprika. This budget-wise Ground Beef Goulash is a nice twist on the original recipe and the paprika flavor is mild.
EasyPreparation time: 20 minutesCooking time: 1½ hoursServes 4 - 6Ingredients: 2lb 2oz / 1kg ground beef4 medium onions, diced 1 red bell pepper, diced2 carrots diced - approx 7oz / 200g4 tomatoes, diced3 tablespoons tomato paste3 tablespoons ground paprika3 cups beef stock - made with a cubeIt is worth using a casserole pot that can be used on the hob as well, in order to save on washing-up. Method: - Preheat the oven to 325° F / 170° C.
- Brown the ground beef in 4 - 5 batches. If you attempt to brown it all at once, you will land up with a gray, watery mass.
- Brown the onions until they are a deep caramel color. This helps to give the dish flavor.
- Add the pepper and carrots and fry for about 3 minutes.
- Add the tomatoes, tomato paste and ground paprika. Finally, add the stock - you may not need to add all of it now, depending on how "wet" your mixture is.
- Place a lid on the casserole dish. Bake for about 1½ hours, stirring every half an hour. Add more stock if necessary and scrape down the sides of the casserole dish.
- Serve with pasta and a big salad.
