Garlic Mash Potato Recipe

This Garlic Mash Potato Recipe makes a nice change from your regular mashed potato recipes. If you really want to rack up the garlic, add an extra clove or two!

This is a great recipe if you are after make-ahead mashed potatoes. Serve it as one of your Thanksgiving side dish recipes. Alternatively, it goes well with sausages, salmon patties, roast chicken or meatballs. It is a great standby when you are preparing make ahead meals.

  • Easy
  • Preparation time: 5 minutes
  • Cooking time: 20 minutes
  • Serves 6
  • Ingredients:

  • 2lb 2oz / 1 kg potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 2oz / 60g butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • ½ cup milk, full fat or fat free
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Method:

    1. Boil the potatoes until they are soft. Drain. Mash them with a steel potato masher (plastic mashers just don't work).
    2. Add the garlic, butter and salt. Mash until the potato hasn't got any lumps in it.
    3. Gradually add the milk and mash until the potato is light and fluffy - you may find that a whisk works at this stage.
    4. Serve this with GOOD quality sausages (pork, lamb or beef - spicy or plain) and Carmelized (or Caramelized) Onions.

This is the perfect accompaniment for fried or grilled sausages, Swedish Meatballs Recipe or Oven Baked Whole Chicken. The added touch of garlic lifts this mashed potato dish out of the realms of the ordinary and a family meal becomes an occasion.
