Fish Taco Recipes

using your choice of fillings

This is one of the easiest Fish Taco Recipes. The beer batter helps to make this the lightest of fried fish recipes. The rest of the recipe is easily put together and you can have supper in under 30 minutes.

  • Easy
  • Preparation time: 10 minutes
  • Cooking time: 10 minutes
  • Serves: 4
  • Ingredients:

  • 9oz / 650g white fish, cut into portions
  • Batter:

  • 4 tablespoons cornflour
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup beer
  • For dusting the fish:

  • ½ cup flour
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • oil for shallow frying
  • For serving:

  • 4 - 8 small taco shells
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Method:

    1. Mix together the cornflour, egg and beer in a shallow bowl.
    2. In a separate shallow bowl or on a plate, mix together the dusting ingredients: flour, cayenne pepper and salt.
    3. Heat the oil so that a drop of batter just sizzles in it. Don't overheat the oil.
    4. Roll the fish portions first in the flour and then coat liberally with the batter.
    5. Shallow fry the fish, turning every minute so that it doesn't burn. Fry for about 5 - 7 minutes until the fish is cooked through and the batter is golden and crispy. This is completely unorthodox, but if there is extra batter, I like to re-dip the fish in the batter about half way through the cooking. This produces a really crisp coating.
    6. Sour Cream Sauce:

    7. Mix together the sour cream, cayenne pepper, cumin and salt.
    8. To serve:

    9. Place the taco shells on a baking tray and heat through for a few minutes at a low heat.
    10. Serve this Fish Taco Recipe with the Taco Shells, Sour Cream Sauce and any of the following extras:

  • shredded lettuce
  • chopped tomatoes.
  • corn
  • chopped coriander (cilantro).
