You will notice that there is no cheese added to the Bechamel Sauce. Instead the sauce is flavored with Dijon mustard. Also, I add very little Bechamel Sauce between the layers and reserve most of it for the top of the Lasagna. This seems to make sense. The Bolognese Sauce is so rich and intense in flavor that it doesn't need a lot of extra White Sauce. A word of warning: make sure that your Bolognese Sauce is not too dry. It should be sloppy without being runny - this is so that there is enough liquid to cook the pasta sheets. Enjoy this special recipe!
Easy, providing Bolognese is prepared (a little effort otherwise)Preparation time: 20 minutes providing Bolognese is preparedCooking time: 40 minutesServes: 6 - 8Ingredients: 1 quantity Bolognese Sauce RecipeBechamel Sauce Recipe (White Sauce): 4 tablespoons butter4 tablespoons flour2 - 2½ cups milk1 teaspoon Dijon mustardsalt and pepper to season
8 - 10oz / 250 - 300g lasagna sheets1 cup strong cheese, grated (Cheddar)½ cup grated Parmesan (optional)You will need an rectangular baking tray: approximately 12" x 9½" /(30cm x 24cm). Method: - Heat the oven to 350° F / 180° C.
- Melt the butter gently in a pot. Stir in the flour until you have a 'roux' or smooth paste. Slowly add the milk, stirring all the time. Continue stirring over a low heat until the mixture just comes to the boil. It will thicken and bubble gently. For this lasagna you want the sauce to be fairly thick but not stiff.
- Add the Dijon mustard and season with salt and pepper.
To assemble the lasagna: - Place about 6 lasagna sheets over the base of the baking tin. They should just overlap, but not by much. The pasta won't cook properly if there is too much of an overlap.
- Spoon over about half of the Bolognese Sauce Recipe.
- Spoon over about ¼ cup White Sauce.
- Repeat the sequence: lasagna sheets, the other half of Bolognese Sauce Recipe and ¼ cup White Sauce. You can repeat the sequence if your dish is a little smaller or you have ample sauce.
- Finish with a layer of lasagna sheets. Pour over the remaining Bechamel Sauce so that it forms a thick coating. Sprinkle over the Cheddar Cheese.
- Bake for about 40 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the pasta sheets have cooked through. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if you wish.
- Serve your easy Lasagna Recipe with a big green salad.
