Beef Burger Recipe

This is a winning Beef Burger Recipe. It is quick and easy to prepare and those beef burgers that you are not cooking now can be frozen for use at a later date. Because we use lean ground beef, this Beef Burger Recipe makes a versatile, healthy meal. Enjoy them on a barbeque in the garden or haul them out of the freezer on one of those days when you are rushed to get a meal on the table. They are also great in lunch boxes - they are substantial and give strapping teenagers a good dollop of protein mid-way through the day! This is definitely one of the most popular lunch box meals that I can produce!

Don't be put off by the addition of cumin or coriander to this recipe - these burgers are not hot at all and the spices just add a little "zing".

  • Easy
  • Preparation time: 10 minutes
  • Cooking time: 10 minutes
  • Ingredients:

  • 2lb 2oz / 1kg ground lean beef
  • 2 medium onions, VERY finely chopped or grated
  • 2 teaspoons ground paprika
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons cumin seed
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • Salt and pepper
  • Oil for frying
  • Method:

    1. In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients above, except the oil. Season with salt and pepper.
    2. Shape the mixture into 10 - 12 patties, making sure that they are fairly flat - just under 1 inch in thickness.
    3. Heat the oil. Fry 2 to 3 patties at a time, for about 3 - 4 minutes on each side, depending on how well done you like them.
    4. Serve on hamburger rolls with lots of sliced tomato, onion, cucumber and lettuce.
    5. Freeze the remaining patties in a suitable container, using wax wrap or cling wrap to separate the layers. Remember to label the container!

  • Here is another tip to simplify your life. Instead of freezing the remaining burgers raw, you can fry them up and freeze them cooked. When you are faced with making lunch boxes, it is easy to take out a cooked patty and pop it in a hamburger roll, with tomato, lettuce and cucumber. If I am making lunchboxes the night before, I don't even bother defrosting the patties - I just let them defrost in the rolls and they are perfect when the kids eat them at school the next day.
